Abwärts can rightly be described as a pioneer of German punkrock. Founded in 1979, first gig at the legendary „Geräusche für die 80er“-festival in Markthalle Hamburg, 1980 the first EP „Computerstaat“, which is still influential today. “Hurra” is the band’s seventh album from 1994, only released on CD and the final point of the collaboration with majorlabel EMI. Including the controversial single „Zonenzombie“. Abwärts managed to stay far away from the social climate and cliché sound for decades, always very unique, sarcastic-cynical to caustic and with a lyrical size and variety that hardly any other German band can offer.
“Hurra” is powerful, angry and disillusioned, takes into account the German conditions of the early 90s as well as
rock star clichés and is correct with its prophetic dystopia “Europa”. “Hurra” was released – typically in the 1990s –
exclusively on CD and is now coming for the first time ever on vinyl: As a fat double-LP with gatefold cover and revised artwork, all lyrics, downloadcode and marbled color vinyl. Plus bonustrack “Grab dich selber ein” as an
acoustic version.
