After a lengthy legal battle with SST’s former distributors Unicorn Records, during which the band couldn’t even record under its own name, remaining members Greg Ginn, Henry Rollins and Bill Stevenson started from scratch when the legal dust had settled. This album was recorded before a new bassist was hired. Guitarist Greg Ginn handled bass on the album, under the pseudonym Dale Nixon.
Black Flag was one of America’s first hardcore punk bands. Guitarist and songwriter Greg Ginn founded Black Flag in 1976 along with vocalist Keith Morris. They were intially called Panic, adopting the Black Flag moniker a few years later. Ginn remained the only constant member in the band until their split in the summer of 1986.
